Global waste management giant; SUEZ welcomes 11 Hitachi construction machines to their orange fleet

Jul 23, 2020

Operating globally for 160 years, the team at SUEZ are experts in water and waste management spanning five different continents. The company aims to help businesses, governments and communities shape a sustainable environment through reuse and recycling of water and waste.

Employing more than 2,800 employees in Australia alone, the SUEZ team operate more than 100 waste management facilities Australia wide enabling them to provide solutions that supply 7 million Australians with safe drinking water and divert 1.2 million tonnes of water from landfill every year. SUEZ globally pride themselves on innovation and always looking forward, investing $175 million every year in research and development in leading edge technology.

As a company who is strongly committed to innovation, performance and customer satisfaction, SUEZ engaged with Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia Pty Ltd (HCA) as a like-minded provider of construction machinery to assist their waste management operations. SUEZ recently purchased 11 machines from Hitachi; 6 of the machines were Hitachi ZW180-5 wheel loaders along with five ZX135US-5 excavators. Prior to this purchase SUEZ purchased a ZW250-5 wheel loader for their NSW facility along with purchasing ZX490LCH-5 excavator, ZW330-5 and ZW370-5 wheel loaders for their Victorian business.

SUEZ’s loyalty to the Hitachi brand is a result of the ‘reliability, comfort and ease of operation of the Hitachi machines, competitive pricing along with maintenance and service support from the Hitachi team,’ commented Ash Turner, SUEZ’s NSW Business Manager. Turner also indicated that ‘the excavators have been well received, are extremely comfortable and perform the required tasks well’ while praising Barry Cahill, Matt McCarthy and Grant Warren on their structured commitment, professionalism and great detail when delivering the machines given the current social restrictions as a result of Covid -19.

“HCA and SUEZ have enjoyed a healthy relationship since we delivered our first Hitachi ZX200LC-3 hydraulic excavator seven years ago,” commented Matt McCarthy, National Major Account Manager at HCA.  “Since then our relationship has really strengthened and both companies enjoy a professional and collaborative approach from site level to senior level.”

The fleet of Hitachi construction machines will no doubt be put to good use as SUEZ’s newest project in NSW is the re-development of the Chullora Resource Recovery Park which includes plans to develop a 40-million-dollar state of the art Materials Recycling Facility (MRF). The MRF’s resemble giant factories where the recyclable materials collected from homes and businesses are taken to be sorted into different streams. These streams are then transported to manufacturers for reprocessing into new products, everything from paper products to outdoor furniture and appliances. The applications of the Hitachi excavator on this project is to “recover resources from various waste streams, unblock chutes and crush material to increase payloads,” adds Ash Turner. The wheel loaders will stockpile various waste materials and load hoppers with materials for loading. Matt McCarthy adds ‘HCA takes very seriously our contribution to the waste and recycling industry and doing our part to improve the earth’s environment, working alongside with SUEZ makes it all worthwhile’.

HCA and SUEZ share a similarity investing in charities and supporting local communities. Both are key sponsors of the Clontarf Foundation, a program established in 2000 that aims to improve educational attainment and employment outcomes for indigenous boys and young men. The Clontarf programs are established as a “home room” in selected high schools where students receive mentoring to improve discipline, life-skills, self-esteem and education. Through the partnership with Clontarf Foundation, HCA and SUEZ have provided Clontarf members with workplace experience and job opportunities.
