Food waste in Australia is now a whopping $20 billion problem for our country, with 34% (2.5 million tonnes) of food waste occurring in the household and 31% (2.3 million tonnes) in primary production.
The Australian Government has recently announced $4 million in seed funding to aid in creating a new independent entity that will be responsible for driving food waste reduction in Australia.
Each year, over seven million tonnes of food is wasted in Australia, costing the economy an estimated $20 billion. At the same time, more than 1 in 5 Australians have experienced some form of food insecurity.
