Each year, over seven million tonnes of food is wasted in Australia, costing the economy an estimated $20 billion. At the same time, more than 1 in 5 Australians have experienced some form of food insecurity.
Following the recent postponement of AWRE 2020 due to the Government legislation on social distancing and travel restrictions, and after many weeks of talking to the industry and consulting with our partners, we are pleased to announce that AWRE will now take place from 25 - 26 November 2020 at the ICC Sydney.

A new dry digestion plant is being built in Kirchberg (Hunsrück) in Rhein-Hunsrück (Rhineland-Palatinate), around 40 km west of the German city of Mainz. It will process around 15,000 metric tons of source-separated organic waste a year.
After many weeks of monitoring the evolving situation around Coronavirus (COVID-19), talking to the industry and consulting with our partners, we have made the difficult decision that the Australasian Waste and Recycling Expo (AWRE) will no longer take place on 26 – 27 August 2020.
In response to China’s National Sword, Australia’s Government’s agreed to establish a sustainable path for Australia’s recyclable waste. With regards to packaging, Ministers agreed to reduce the amount of waste generated, to make it easier to recycle products and set a target to make 100% of packaging in Australia reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025.
